Mentoring
Making an Impact
Think about the people who made the biggest impact on your life. You might think about one of your parents or youth pastor. Perhaps a teacher or school counselor comes to mind. These people were role models for you.
Unfortunately, positive role models can be scarce in the inner city. Single parent homes are so common that we are surprised when we find a father living at home and helping to raise his children. Role models too often come in the form of gang leadership.
We have found that our programs and outreach efforts become a natural conduit for us to role model and mentor youth. Kids get to see first hand a person living out their faith. In some cases one of our married missionaries are among the few married couples they even know.
Seeing the gospel lived out through another person can be a powerful testimony. Our program staff live and work right in the community. We are called to role model the Christian life, and as individual youth see this, they understand that being a Christian means they must "walk the talk."
